The Greatest Earthquake Ever Recorded

The honor of greatest earthquake of all time goes to the 1960 Chile earthquake because scientists were able to 'catch this one on tape'.In other words, there have been a lot of really big earthquakes throughout human history (and even greater ones before we came on the scene), but this one they were able to measure, record and verify its ground motion strength. The instruments that seismologists use to measure earthquake magnitudes are designed to detect the amount of energy released by the movement of the ground during a quake. In the case of the Chile earthquake, the amount of energy released during the quake, not the number of human deaths and damage to structures, earned it the title of greatest.

Why earthquake are happening?? Whenever an earthquake of any size happens anywhere in the world the same basic thing happens; the ground along either side of a fault (a fracture or crack in the ground) moves. Faults are cracks in the earth caused by buckling and stress from the movement of the tectonic plates.

Although earthquake is purely a natural disaster unlike drought which is related to global warming, earthquake caused a lot damage to structures and as well to human's life and caused billions or dollar of damage annually. I am impressed with Japan's technology to minimise damage from earthquake. Being a war tore country in 1940's, now Japan's earthquake disaster system is the best in the world and most of the building it the Japan are capable of resisting earthquake of 5 Richter scale and above.

The importance of English grammar.

Since we having few English coursework now, a particular article caught attention, that is "The importance of English grammar". According to the article, "It is necessary for us to start a writing particularly English writing with the correct usage of grammar. English speaking alone is not the only factor for you to achieve your dreams in life as you need to write an application letter if you are applying for a certain job.".

The article also said, "However, if you don’t have much time spending lessons for English from a typical school. You have much time engaging yourself in the net, enroll yourself in some of the available English schools in the net where it still provides you how the correct usage of English grammar is properly use."

In my opinion, it is very fact and many people realised it.But many people just don't have the power in English grammar. Particularly, in Malaysia, we all are about average when it's come to speaking in English, but when comes to writing, we are worst. I think this might have caused by our education system that doesn't give enough attention to the English itself. But I am glad that now the government does. Hopefully, our Malaysian's English grammar will improve significantly in coming years.

Last but not least, "When you are a person having a good communication in English from both in writing and speaking, there would be a lot of admirer. "

The world plunged into darkness for an hour......

It's Earth Hour 2009 on 28th March, 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm.

From the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge to the Eiffel Tower in Paris and London's Houses of Parliament, lights were dimmed as part of a campaign to encourage people to cut energy use and curb greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels. And, proudly, even our UMP students take part in the Earth Hour... Most of the lights in the hostel's room were off by student themself for an hour.

The event which started in Australia in 2007, went global last year and it attracted 50 millions people this year.

According to the UN, greenhouse gas emissions are warming the planet and will lead to more floods, droughts, heatwaves, rising sea levels and animal and plant extinctions. I am totally agree to the statement.Greenhouse gasses are destroying our earth and the emissions of the gas should reduce and capped to reduce it's effect and control the damage it already has done to the world.
According to the article also, it stated that world emissions have risen by about 70 percent since the 1970s. China has recently overtaken the United States as the top emitter, ahead of the European Union, Russia and India.

So, guys, what is our call to save the our mother earth? Think about it...

How to save $ 2.8 billion a year?

Hai, everyone....

I knew what you all guys out there thinking. How we going to save huge $ 2.8 billion a year? The answer is just simple. Just shut off your laptop when you are not using it.In total, the total saving in electricity would be the $ 2.8 billion.

According to article titled "Leaving computers on overnight = $2.8 billion a year ", it says 'But all the power wasted while computers are sitting idle overnight adds up, and one study has finally tried to measure it. The tally: An estimated $2.8 billion wasted on excess energy costs each year in the U.S. alone.
On a CO2 basis, that's 20 million tons of carbon dioxide, about the amount produced by 4 million cars on the road.'

Admittedly I don't think much about it at all although I shut off my laptop after i use it. Many people running overnight because I know it'll take five minutes or more to get things going in the morning. The article also stated that if you run a company with 1,000 PCs left on overnight, you can save about $28,000 a year if they are turned off after hours. That's not chump change.

In my opinion, i think that laptop or PC will function better if you restart it regularly, and nightly shutdowns can help you avoid having to suddenly reboot in the middle of the day when you'd otherwise be productive. So even though this is very little, maybe it's a smart idea and ultimately a time-saver too to shut it down after hours after all.

The Lost Fortune of World's Billionaires In 2008........

How bad is the economic or the recession is?

The proof is ......

It's been a tough year for the richest people in the world. Last year there were 1,125 billionaires. This year there are just 793 people rich enough to make our list. And this year the world's billionaires have an average net worth of $3 billion, down 23% in 12 months. The world now has 793 billionaires, down from 1,125 a year ago.

Top the list for 2008 is

with losing some $ 18 billion....Amazingly....

Last year, richest man is placed second in the this year....

Lost $ 25 billion due to poor performance of his Wal Mart Empire and tumble of Berkshire Hathaway's share....

In my opinion, 'Lost Fortune of The World's Billionaires In 2008' is due to recession and mainly due to the tumble of their company's share. Actually, they did not 'lost' fortune really as share value will increase as the economy do...

So, the world billionaires still have their fortune in the end of day and recession is the best time to increase their fortune further......

AirAsia's expand amid economic meltdown???

Have you all guys heard about AirAsia? I bet you all must. Airasia is the biggest budget airline in the region and one of the biggest in world. It has reputation far as Europe or rather I said England.

I recently read an article about AirAsia titled, “AirAsia takes a big risk in a down market”. AirAsia’s ceo and founder, Tony Fernandes is well known person for creativity and risk taking mentally. So, it’s not surprising if AirAsia is taking big risk amid global economic downturn.

So, what is the risk is the AirAsia is taking?
1. AirAsia gave away one million seats
2. Lowering tickets price although it’s profit is shrinking
3. 175 Airbus A320 planes in order book although total net debt is RM 4.4 billion

Amid the risk, I agreed with analyst that AirAsia still can come as winner amid global economic meltdown as passenger seek budget airline for traveling, increase customers royalty and increasing strong lucrative routes.

Finally, I believe Tony Fernandes knows the strategy of AirAsia better than anyone else in the world.
